WHY WE LOVE... PASCOE CANDLES

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Based on the Norfolk coast and born in January 2020, we expertly hand-pour candles and wax melts with a range of phthalate and paraben-free fragrances, while keeping the environment in mind with plastic-free packaging and sustainable ingredients.

What made you set up Pascoe Candles?

We've always loved the way that fragrances can instantly boost your mood and inspire people. For example, the way that lavender can instantly calm and how soft florals make us dream of spring. Sadly we weren't always aware of the ingredients in your average supermarket candles, so we set out to make a change by sourcing quality ingredients to create our own.

Who is part of your team?

Currently, it's just us (Annabel and Cameron) who plan, create, package orders, and run our small business, along with the help of our inquisitive border collie Prince who helps to keep us sane when things get busy!

Where do you source your ingredients?

All of our ingredients and packaging are sourced from UK suppliers. We carefully inspect the ingredients of each of our fragrances to make sure they're phthalate and paraben-free, as well as being free from any hazardous nasties.

What's the best thing about the area you live in?

Where do we begin? We wouldn't want to be anywhere but Norfolk, not only for its beautiful scenery and wildlife, which we love dearly, but also due to the wonderful community spirit which can be found in any and every town and village. We love to pop into Norwich and support the local high street shops where you can find all sorts of goodies from other small businesses. We're so lucky to have lived here our whole lives and it's inspired us to be as sustainable as possible to help maintain our environment. We do this by using only plastic-free packaging, eco-friendly ingredients and planting trees with every order.

How has the pandemic affected you and what are your plans for the future? (have you learnt anything along the way which has been positive?)

We started planning Pascoe Candles around the end of 2019 and launched in early 2020 just before the pandemic hit the UK. Little did we know the effect this would have on us! The main problem we've encountered, which has been a big issue in the whole candle industry, is little to no stock available of jars, lids, fragrances and wax, which is obviously a huge problem for us! Although we've been in business for over a year now, we've actually only been in stock for about half of the time due to these shortages. We had to go through months of re-testing and changing our product to be able to keep running and the shortages are still ongoing.

The positive however is that we've seen a real community spirit and lots of people wanting to help out and be as understanding as they can. Our customers couldn't be any more amazing and we're really grateful that they've stuck with us through the hard times so far. As business owners, the pandemic has only made us stronger and we're so much more appreciative of every candle we make and every order we receive.

Our plans for the future? We're always looking for ways to improve our candles and we're hoping to give them a little makeover over the next few months! We'll also be on the lookout to partner with other local businesses to make our candles accessible to everyone.
