WINE TASTING WITH KEELING ANDREW & CO

The Garnet would like to welcome Keeling Andrew & co who we discovered through Nobel Rot magazine and the fabulous, eye catching and very tasty Chin Chin. We were lucky enough to go to their portfolio tasting this month and would like to introduce you to some of the wines we’re going to be stocking as part of that.

  1. Firstly, the very special 2019 LANGHE NEBBIOLO, Lalù, an elegant, juicy red with hints of anise, wild cherries and bright strawberries. A perfect summer wine and we were delighted to meet the two female winemakers behind the Lalù, Lara & Luisa, at the portfolio tasting.

Look out for their feature in latest issue of Noble Rot Issue 28, Dan Keeling:

"...Torinese college friends Luisa Sala and Lara Rocchetti spent harvests at Comtes Lafon and Cecile Tremblay, whilst training at La Morra's benchmark Trediberri, prior to starting the excellent Lalu in 2019...Once you've acquired the taste, there's no turning back."

2. Viuva Gomes Colares Reserva Tinto 1969 - Colares, Portugal, was once an incredibly popular wine-producing region with over 1000 hectares of vineyards, it almost became extinct in the latter half of the 20th Century and today covers just 20 hectares. Though production is tiny, the specialism of the region is wonderfully expressive and remarkably long-lived wines made from incredibly old, ungrafted vines that grow in deep, sandy soils. This rare wine is made from 100% Ramisco which is a variety known for its savoury complexity, vibrant acidity and delightfully elegant length.

3. 2020 KOHLER-RUPRECHT, RIESLING - This deliciously dry, balanced Riesling. Don’t be put off by the name. Historically synonymous with sweetness this Riesling has a load of minerality, citrus and fresh crisp apples.

4. 2020 Le Fins Amis - Natural, biodynamic French Garnacha, Syrah blend has generous notes of plum, orange peel and dried flowers. It’s round and chewy without being too natural…

5. 2013 RIOJA-CRIANZA, LOPEZ DE HEREDIA - And, lastly, we have our classic Spanish Rioja, with enticing aromas of blackberries, leather and cedar. A meaty full bodied one for you red wine drinkers.

And lastly, proving to be one of the most popular wine in our repertoire - Chin Chin will soon be available in the 1.5 litre bottle (sadly not online but for enjoyment here in The Garnet pub or to take-away.) However, enjoy a little discount code for the 2019 LANGHE NEBBIOLO simply pop ‘WINE15’ at checkout for one week only.
