WHY WE LOVE... HUMBLEYARD
New to the Garnet Stores and Supplies is the collaboration between artists, potters and partners -Marion and Scott Stuart aka Humbleyard. Their works reference Norfolk using the colours and textures of sea, sky and land in their simple, functional ware. Their pieces have irregular beauty and a feel of the hand that has made and glazed them. Made with the wheel you can see the thrown rings on each individual piece creating texture and a sense of the technique used.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES?
HUMBLEYARD ceramics is a collaboration and we are partners, potters and artists. The two of us, Scott and Maz, husband and wife, a partnership in pottery. Our name is derived from when areas of Norfolk were divided in Anglo-Saxon times into hundreds, and each was named, our local area was HUMBLEYARD. Since starting HUMBLEYARD the response has been so wonderful, we’ve been excited to be a part of supplying several SELECTED stores such as The Garnet.
WHAT MADE YOU SET UP HUMBLEYARD?
We set up our functional ware range as a collaboration in response to the Norfolk Landscape in clay. We’d been making simple functional ware and decided it was time to focus down on how we produced this, creating a palette of glaze colours sea, marsh and big skies. We create works referencing Norfolk using the colours and textures of sea, sky and land in our simple functional ware.
HOW HAS THE CURRENT PANDEMIC AFFECTED YOU AND WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
The pandemic was a real spur to action for being more serious about making work together and collaborating on a project together. The pandemic definitely helped us to focus on Humbleyard, seeing the local landscape on local walks that changing through the seasons, it inspired us.
WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT THE AREA YOU LIVE IN?
The area of HUMBLEYARD has just such beautiful countryside, we love taking inspiration from the colours and textures around us.
